Using a minimalist set and modern dress, fused with sharp lighting, powerful music and striking televisual images, Shakespeare"s  Henry V is brought starkly up-to-date.

The battlefield of Agincourt is relocated to the ultramodern offices of Henry V and Charles VI, Presidents of England and France respectively.

Present-day warfare no longer sees the valiant King leading his troops onto the battlefield. Instead, the sharp-suited rulers of countries today meet in high-tech offices and initiate war though state-of-the-art technology. The "armour" of yesterday is replaced by cutting edge global positioning devices and information technology; the "proud hoofs" of the horses are superceded by the laptop and telephone.

In an age where a button activated in one country can unleash terror and carnage across a continent, we see a dangerous divide between those issuing directives of war and those actually implementing them on the front-line. Again and again, we are forced to question our conception of morality, and the distinctions between the polarities of "good" and "evil" become blurred and distorted.

Here, characters in sharp suits inhabit a bare arena, devoid of scenery below a giant video screen, wrestling with issues of international implication. Set against such a blood-soaked backdrop of war and uncompromising violence on a global scale, there has never been a better time to bring Henry V and the intensity of Shakespeare"s language and style to a contemporary audience. The "then" of Henry V becomes the "now" of present day.

"Disturbing to watch, but nonetheless compelling. . . the acting was frighteningly believable." Gairrhydd

The play was "Commended" at The National Student Drama Festival and, as a result, both Eloise Emanuel (Director) and Pim Gergory (Henry V) have been selected for the prestigious NSDF:ENSEMBLE 2003.

Te Deum"s production was first performed on 31 January 2003 in Cardiff, three months before Henry V graced the stage at The National Theatre, London.
